WHAT WE DO

In Ghana, through the adoption of (CAP), CARE has helped ensure District Assemblies’ Medium Term Development Plans better reflect citizens’ priorities. Successes of the CARE CAP model over more than ten years prompted CARE Ghana to document the CAP model with the primarily objective to influence the Ghana National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) to institutionalize the CAP model as part of the 2013 planned overhaul of the national development planning guidelines. CARE championed policy advocacy led the NDPC to integrate the CAP model as a platform for mobilizing citizen participation in the preparation of the Medium Term Development Plans and District Annual Action Plans.

In DRC, the USAID funded project Tufaidike Wote is designed to tackle the intertwined problems of poverty and instability in eastern DR Congo. Key strategies involve including women in the peace process, building local structures to deal with conflict, and advocacy on key conflict issues. Another key component is resourcing joint community development activities for communities to have a common goal. CARE's work involved building capacities and creating spaces and opportunities for diverse groups in targeted communities to participate in a combination of reconciliation and recovery activities to help create peace and stability. CARE employed an innovative combined community-driven reconstruction approach anchoring the three pillars of the project: (1) peacebuilding; (2) governance; (3) livelihoods.
